How many dogs can you fit in a Jetta?

June 26, 2012

Dogs in a JettaLast weekend, I got to experience the hilarity in this picture on a camping trip—and, of course, I couldn’t have done it without a car.

Trains and bikes and buses are wonderful, beautiful, and fabulous, but cars can take you some places that the other three probably can’t (at least not without extreme quadricep conditioning).

So, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the drivers who give me transport when rain is pouring, streets are dark, distances are great, or there’s camping to be done.

Over the years, there have been a great many of you. Each of you has made an important contribution to my car-free life. Several of you—past and present—have given me rides on such a regular basis as to warrant, I feel, being recognized by name (in alphabetical order):

  • Adam Kaylor
  • Dad
  • Gretchen Smiley
  • Jessica Mendelowitz
  • Jill Anderson White
  • Julie McGinley
  • Liz Woolsey Franke
  • Lori Vaerewyck
  • Mom
  • Thomedi Ventura
  • Wendy Vaerewyck

Some of you are close friends and loved ones. Some of you I no longer have contact with. Nevertheless, you are all heroes in my car-free world. Thank you.

Car-freely,
Amy

Hey, wake up, your eyes weren’t open wide
For the last couple of miles you’ve been swerving from side to side
You’re gonna make me spill my beer,
If you don’t learn how to steer

      Passenger si-hide, I-hi don’t mind ridin’
      On the passenger side.

I thought I would be higher on the ride-providing list given all those treks across Belgium with Bridget screaming at us!

Alphabetical order, dear sister. 🙂 But I guess I shouldn’t have left Bridg off the list, huh?
